Initiating your project

Getting Started | Manuscript Preparation
Publication Timelines | Publications Intake Form [.PDF download]

Getting Started
When you are ready to start your project, fill out the Intake form and send it by campus mail or deliver it in person to 101 Chapman Hall. The form is available from Creative Publishing or online. The form will be passed to one of the designers in Creative Publishing, who will be your contact during the design, editing, and printing of your piece. The designer does not begin to work on your project until you have delivered a signed Printing and Supply Order Data Sheet, final copy, and any photos, captions, or graphics you want to include in the piece.

Manuscript Preparation
Your manuscript should be as accurate and complete as possible. Changes made at later stages become progressively more costly.
All of the elements that are to appear on the printed piece should be submitted with the text, including photo captions, a return address, photographs, and artwork

Electronic Manuscripts
The following guidelines have been developed to lead you through the process of submitting your manuscript electronically.

  • Always include a hard copy of your document with the file.
  • Never send an original file. Always keep at least one copy of each file.
  • Label any disks you send with your name, department, and phone number or extension.
  • Do not format electronic copy except for embedded bold and italic text.
  • Check spelling before submitting the electronic document.
  • Give us only the files relevant to the job.
  • Submit a short document in one file.
  • Separate a long document into several small files before submitting.

Revising Existing Publications
If the changes are relatively minor, you can make them directly on a clean copy of your printed publication and submit that to publications as your manuscript. If the changes are more complex, submit new copy electronically following the guidelines outlined above.
